Kiley McdonnellStaff at Shrewsbury’s Theatre Severn have been inundated with messages of support for a panto star who was injured in the town blast.

Kiley McDonnell was due to be on stage as Jovial Jake for the final two performances of Peter Pan on Sunday, before being injured in the explosion.

He remains at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, where he is being treated for spinal injuries.Theatre manager Peter Nicholson said staff wanted to express their “best wishes” for Kiley, his family and friends.

He said: “Kiley has been a popular face around the Theatre Severn over the pantomime season and it has been shocking news for us all to hear of Kiley’s incident.

Our thoughts and wishes are with the family and friends of Kiley at this time.

“We have had many messages of support via e-mail and our Twitter page from the Theatre Severn audience, which we will be passing onto Kiley’s family. We hope Kiley has a speedy recovery and is able to come back to perform at the theatre soon.”

Mr Nicholson also spoke about the impact the explosion had on the theatre, which suffered cosmetic damage to the fabric of the building from the blast’s shockwave.

He said the theatre was now “open for business” and the box office was fully operational after the explosion left the building with no phone or internet capabilities.

He added: “We are grateful to our customers for being so understanding in this matter.”
