Pal delighted at support on Facebook
Thursday 7th January 2010, 3:06PM GMT.
A friend of a Shrewsbury teenager who suffered serious burns in the explosion today said there had been a fantastic response to a Facebook group set up in support of her.
Christopher Bates, of Butcher Row, said more than 1,900 people had signed up to the group in support of Annie Davies, 19, on the social networking site.
She had been at her friends’ flat in Bridge Street when the blast happened.
She suffered burns to her face, neck, hands, chest and legs and is being treated at Birmingham’s Selly Oak Hospital.
Mr Bates, 20, said he had been left devastated by what had happened and wanted to do something to galvanise support for his friend. He said: “I have known Annie for about four years.
“She’s the nicest person in the world, I know it is cliched to say something like that after a big incident like this but she really is.
“She’s a very polite person and everybody who meets her would say she’s a very nice girl. This really happened to the wrong person.”
Mr Bates said he had spoken to Miss Davies’s family who had told him that she had suffered 40 per cent burns.
He said: “I started the group on Facebook to support her and within two or three days 1,500 people had signed up and are responding by leaving messages.
“Her dad has also been on Facebook saying how she’s doing.”
