Council in data inquiry
Thursday 7th January 2010, 10:01AM GMT.
A Shropshire town council is being probed by information watchdogs amid claims it flouted data protection laws, it emerged today.
Chris Kelly, 21, of Whitchurch, reported Whitchurch Town Council to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) after he claimed the authority “dragged its heels” in releasing footage of him recorded on its CCTV network.
It means the council could face a fine from the watchdog.
Councillor Alan Chesters, Whitchurch mayor, declined to comment.
