Weather eye on Bucks’ fixtures
Wednesday 6th January 2010, 2:00PM GMT.
AFC Telford United may have to wait until January 16 for their first game of 2010 – with chairman Lee Carter admitting next Tuesday’s clash with Vauxhall Motors is in severe doubt.
Carter will leave it until the morning of the game to make any final decision, but the long-range forecasts are not offering him any solace.
And the matter could be taken out of his hands before then, with Vauxhall’s scheduled FA Trophy clash at Stevenage also in doubt.
If that one is postponed it would automatically be pencilled in for the following Tuesday, leaving the Bucks to focus on the visit of Farsley Celtic a week on Saturday.
“The pitch is white and it’s hard,” said Carter. “Looking at the forecast, there is no way this pitch will thaw out for the covers to be put down ahead of the Vauxhall game.
“Vauxhall’s game against Stevenage in the FA Trophy will probably be off on Saturday too, so that would mean our game was postponed anyway.
“There might be a window of opportunity for the Farsley game because the 10-day forecast suggests it may go up to 7C later next week, and that would give us a chance to get on the pitch.”
Carter also revealed the freezing conditions and heavy snowfall across the Midlands was making it hard to find training facilities.
The Bucks had to call off their usual Tuesday session last night, but have plans in place for the rest of the week.
“We couldn’t train last night, we couldn’t find a venue and there was no way we could ask our players to travel in that weather,” he added. “We’ll train at the TCAT Dome tomorrow and at the Wolves Dome in Aldersley on Saturday morning.”
