Cabinet asked to consider park bid
Wednesday 6th January 2010, 9:19AM GMT.

Multi-million pound plans to transform Telford Town Park have moved a step closer after proposals were put forward to submit a detailed planning application and bid for funding.
The near £4 million project includes plans for new information boards, heritage and ecology trails and a teenage activity area including a skate park and multi-use games area.
A report due to go before Telford & Wrekin Council’s ruling cabinet on Tuesday will recommend that members approve the development of a planning application.
Officers will also urge councillors to submit a bid for lottery funding and hope work could begin on the project as early as September.
Councillor Stephen Bentley, Telford & Wrekin Council cabinet member for environment, said: “Telford Town Park is an excellent open space and recreational resource for the borough.
“These proposals would enable the council to move forward with plans to improve this facility for people of all ages.”
The report states almost half of the £3.8 million outlay will be spent on making the park more welcoming for visitors as well as opening up previously unexplored areas.
As part of the plans more than £400,000 will be spent on recruiting a full-time education officer t.
Almost £1.5 million will be needed to maintain the park over a 10-year period, according to the report.
The meeting takes place at Telford’s civic offices from 6pm.
