Shropshire horseracing followers look set to be left out in the cold this week.
Ludlow’s Thursday meeting was abandoned this morning, while prospects of racing at the county’s other local track – Bangor on Friday – are fading fast with an inspection due tomorrow afternoon.
Ludlow were due to inspect at 2pm this afternoon but clerk of the course Bob Davies was resigned to his fate this morning and made an early decision.
“We haven’t got a cat in hell’s chance of racing,” he said.
“We have been as low as minus nine and we are not due to get above freezing.”
Bangor will check at 2pm tomorrow afternoon, but clerk of the course Ed Gretton is not optimistic.
“We have had a bit of snow this morning and we have got two more freezing nights ahead,” he said.
“We only got down to minus two last night but it was minus nine on Sunday night.”
