The group, which has been approved by the Charity Commission, has been set up by Councillor Jon Tandy, member for Meole, Column and Sutton and Roberta Jones, a resident of Castlefields. Councillor Tandy said he hoped everyone in Shrewsbury could donate at least a pound in order to reach the target.

Victims included Sam Devine-Turner and Sarah Pearse, both 19, Scott Godbold, Angharad Davies, and Kiley McDonnell – who was starring in the Peter Pan pantomime at Theatre Severn. Councillor Tandy said: “We have set up the fund in order to help out anybody affected by the explosion which happened in the town on Sunday.

Annie Davies“There are people who have been seriously injured, those who have suffered less serious injuries and also people whose homes have been damaged.

“The occupier of the first floor will return home with no belongings and sadly, the injured residents may require forms of plastic surgery, medication or treatment.

“The residents of Shrewsbury who were on the scene at the time did a brilliant job in helping prior to the arrival of the emergency services. The emergency services must be congratulated for their swift arrival and help and co-ordination throughout the day.

“A special fund has been set up by Roberta Jones and myself to aid those impacted by the disaster. Please give anything you can afford. There are over 100,000 people in Shrewsbury alone. If only each of us gave a pound, think what a difference we can make.”
