Danny’s sure he can end goal drought

Tuesday 5th January 2010, 1:51PM GMT.

danny-carey-bertramAFC Telford United striker Danny Carey-Bertram is hoping history repeats itself as he bids to rediscover his goalscoring touch.

The 25-year-old has returned to the New Bucks Head after completing a month on loan at Blue Square South neighbours Worcester City.

That move had been arranged in the hope the former Hereford hitman might play himself back into form, but he failed to find the target at St George’s Lane.

Carey-Bertram, who was last season’s top scorer with 21, has still scored just once all season – that in a 4-1 FA Cup win over Pegasus Juniors.

But the determined hitman is drawing inspiration from the 2004-05 season, when he endured a similarly frustrating run with the Bulls.

He failed to even register one in the first five months of that campaign, but opened his account late in January and went on to score eight in 16 games.

“That was a difficult season as well, but I started scoring regularly in the February and got quite a few in the end,” he recalled.

“I’m still thinking positively and I’m looking to the future now.

“I’m looking forward to coming back to Telford. I’ve missed the boys and all the banter and it will be good to be back in the thick of it.

“I’ve spoken to Larry (Chambers, the assistant manager) and the gaffer (Rob Smith) and they both say they don’t doubt my attitude and willingness to work. As long as I keep trying, I’m hoping the goals will come.”

Meanwhile, Bucks officials have already admitted the freezing conditions are causing concern ahead of the scheduled visit of Vauxhall Motors a week tonight.

In a prepared statement, they revealed: “The club have been unable to re-lay the covers taken off for the Boxing Day game against Stafford due to continual frozen conditions since.

“The club will be looking for pitch to thaw in order that the covers can be placed on to protect it prior to the game against Vauxhall.”
