It was hard to believe more people were not caught up in the explosion at Bridge Street, writes Emma Kasprzak.

Rubble and debris, along with items blown clear from the flat, were strewn across the road and the car park of the Shrewsbury Hotel.

Rescuers would have been greeted by scenes of chaos as bricks, window frames and glass were scattered across both lanes of the carriageway as far as Morris & Co on the opposite side of the road.
