The babies of 2010 kept coming well into the evening on New Year’s Day as they all rushed to arrive on the first day of the new decade.
The first baby born in Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital was Lola-Rose Charlton, who was born at 1.30pm, weighing 8lb 5oz.
Her mother, 30-year-old Katie Williams, said she is over the moon and looking forward to taking Lola-Rose back to their home in Morton, near Bridgnorth.
She said: “It’s a wonderful feeling. I was due on December 20 and I was meant to be induced on New Year’s Eve but Shrewsbury hospital was too busy so they cancelled and she was born naturally on New Year’s Day.
“This is my second child so I knew what to expect and it was a quick labour and now her brother Lael has a little sister, we are all delighted.
“My partner is fine. I think he’s just getting over the shock, he was a bit nervous about it. I’m looking forward to getting her home.”
