Motoring groups were predicting further travel misery today as millions return to work following the long Christmas break.

The glacial conditions of the weekend are set to continue with further snow expected to blanket Britain early this week.

Emergency services were called to two incidents of cars sliding off the roads in Shropshire and Mid Wales yesterday.

The accidents happened near Sarn in Mid Wales and at the A525 at Hall Green, Whitewell, near Whitchurch. No-one suffered major injuries.

This week Shropshire and Mid Wales again look likely to escape the worst, though Met Office forecasters say there is a chance of snow showers tonight and tomorrow.

Temperatures in Mid Wales fell to -12C (10F) last night.
