Drayton chasing New Year flier
Thursday 31st December 2009, 6:18PM GMT.
Market Drayton Town attempt to begin 2010 with a bang at Greenfields tomorrow.
They entertain basement club Willenhall in UniBond League division one south (3pm) with an ideal opportunity to start the New Year in style.
The Wolverhampton visitors have been beset by problems on and off the pitch, with a 10-point deduction leaving them rooted to the foot of the table and starring at the prospect of relegation.
Drayton turn the year in eighth place and within touching distance of the play-offs, although still attempting to rekindle their blistering early season form.
But manager Andy Pryce drew positives from his side’s performance in the 1-0 Boxing Day defeat at Mickleover Sports, and is eyeing a maximum return tomorrow.
“We are at home and if we perform half as well as we did against Mickleover, we would give ourselves a great chance of winning the game,” said Pryce.
“You never really know what to expect from Willenhall.
“One day they can turn up with a very strong side and the next they will have a load of players unavailable. We will just have to see but we are want to build on our position.”
Pryce will be missing from the dug-out for tomorrow’s game due to prior commitments, leaving coach Mick Murphy to take charge.
The pair have Steve Taylor back available after he missed the Boxing Day trip to Mickleover, although Andrew Spooner did well deputising between the posts.
Nicky Porter returns from suspension but Ashley Burd and Marc Stallard are both still banned.
Long-term casualty Tom Ward remains the only major injury concern for Drayton.
