Devastation as thieves target couple’s home
Thursday 31st December 2009, 7:53AM GMT.
A couple from Shropshire have been left devastated after burglars targeted their home on Christmas Day and stole hundreds of pounds worth of belongings.
Raiders forced their way into the house at Prees Road in Calverhall, north Shropshire, between 12.30pm and 7.30pm on Christmas Day, while the family was out for the afternoon.
They took a Nintendo Wii games console, a black Samsung digital camera and a Pure Media 4GB memory card.
Victims Chris and Michelle Gater have now appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
Mr Gater said today that hundreds of pounds worth of items had been stolen, including Christmas presents.
He said: “We’d gone out for the afternoon and when we returned every room had been raided and we were just left in shock.
“We just can’t believe this has happened especially on Christmas Day. It wasn’t just items they stole, they also smashed the downstairs window to gain access to our property and damaged our furniture while they burgled us. I’m hoping the thieves will be caught and our items can be returned and hope people will get in touch with the police if they have any information at all.”
Police in Whitchurch are appealing for witnesses to the burglary. Contact Constable Kerry Adamson on 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
