A retired carpenter found dead at his Telford home had been hit over the head with a blunt instrument and stabbed in the neck, an inquest heard today.

Frank John Corbett, 77, was discovered inside the end terrace cottage at The Nabb in St Georges he had shared for years with his brother Ted Corbett, who is still missing.

An inquest into the death of Frank Corbett – known as John – was opened at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford this morning by Telford & Wrekin coroner Mr John Ellery.

The inquiry heard a post-mortem revealed death was caused by “blunt trauma to head and face and stab wounds to neck”.

Mr Ellery adjourned the hearing to a later date for further investigations. Police say the investigation into Mr Corbett’s death on December 21 is still ongoing.

Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said: “We are focusing on tracking down Mr Corbett’s brother and we would like to reassure people that we are not looking for anybody else in connection with this death.”

Officers spent more than three days last week searching a section of the River Severn between Cressage and Ironbridge for Ted Corbett, 66.
