Warning of road closures for works
Wednesday 30th December 2009, 10:05AM GMT.
Drivers using Shropshire’s A5 are being warned of overnight closures on the Oswestry bypass next week.
The Highways Agency is planning to resurface the A5 Whittington roundabout, near Oswestry, to improve safety for motorists.
The works, which will take place on the roundabout as well as the approach and exit areas, will begin on Tuesday and are expected to last for one week.
To minimise disruption to traffic, work is set to take place overnight when short sections of the A5 will be closed in both directions between the Mile End roundabout and Five Crosses roundabout.
A diversion route through Oswestry will be clearly signposted.
John Steel, Highways Agency project manager, said: “Road users using the A5 near Oswestry may need to allow extra time for journeys overnight due to the local diversion.”
Meanwhile, 12 weeks of roadworks are being planned for Ford near Shrewsbury.
The Highways Agency has made the works order for the A458 trunk road.
Work will be carried out between 9.30am and 3.30pm and is expected to start on Monday. It will mean a 30mph restriction on part of the A458 and a 10mph limit through the roadworks.
The agency has promised that access to premises will be maintained at all times.
