Adams back in business for Bucks
Wednesday 30th December 2009, 4:00PM GMT.
Jon Adams is on course to ring in the New Year in style – by being fit for AFC Telford United’s first game of 2010, writes JAMES GARRISON.
The midfielder suffered a nasty head injury during Monday’s 2-0 Blue Square North defeat at Hinckley.
But assistant manager Larry Chambers today insisted Adams is on course to have recovered in time to be available for Friday’s trip to Stafford Rangers.
“Jon is okay,” confirmed Chambers. “He had to have some stitches in Selly Oak Hospital on Monday night and it has knocked him around a little bit.
“But with the improvement over the next couple of days, Jon should be fine for Friday.”
Chambers and manager Rob Smith are hoping to select from a fully fit squad for the second festive fixture against Stafford after being forced to leave Andy Brown, Carl Rodgers and Damian Reeves on the bench at Hinckley.
Rodgers and Brown were each carrying minor knocks, while Reeves was suffering from a bug.
Meanwhile, the Bucks should learn today whether Shrewsbury will agree to extending the loan of forward Andre Gray for a further month.
“I have spoken to Paul Simpson and he knows that we want to keep Andre,” added Chambers.
“It’s now up to Paul and Shrewsbury to decide what they want to do.”
Meanwhile, the Bucks have announced three midweek games for the New Year.
They will entertain Vauxhall Motors on January 12 and make the trip to Northwich on February 23.
And the home game against Gainsborough, scheduled for Saturday week, will now be played on Tuesday, February 9 due to the Lincolnshire club’s FA Trophy commitments.
