More gritters out after collisions
Saturday 26th December 2009, 10:25AM GMT.
Extra gritting lorries from around Shropshire were called to treat roads around Oswestry after a spate of minor collisions today.
A spokesman for West Mercia Police said conditions in areas surrounding the town were “treacherous” following heavy rain which had fallen on to frozen road surfaces.
“There have been at least five collisions reported, but fortunately none of them has been serious,” he said.
One accident saw two people trapped in a car which went off the road on the old A5 near Nesscliffe at about 6.35am.

But the question is, how do the gritter drivers manage on the same roads that others fail, or is that we just allow poor drivers to clog up the road system? Remember the salt/grit comes out of the back so they don’t benefit from the it.

Do not understand why there seem to be far fewer sightings of gritters on roads around the oswestry area compared to the frequent sightings in similar weather conditions in years gone by – Lack of funds or lack of organisation?.
