Titans’ netminder explains exit

Thursday 24th December 2009, 5:59PM GMT.

Telford TitansNetminder Daniel Brittle has said he left Telford Titans in order to be seen as a “good goalie with a good reputation” – and is hoping for a return with the Tigers next season.

Brittle, who had only just returned from a long-term injury, failed to return to the ice after just one period of Telford’s match at Coventry Blaze last weekend.

He subsequently left the club, but is already targetting a return with Telford Tigers next season – should the supporter-backed club join the English Premier League.

He said: “I just did not want my name to be tarnished with their (Titans) brush.

“I did not want to be classed as a player who does not take the game seriously.

“The main reason is that I want to be seen as a good goalie with a good reputation and to go to the Tigers next season.

“I would like to go there very much.”

Telford Titans coach David Fielder, however, believes discipline is well under control at the club – and that the penalties suffered during last weekend’s game at Coventry were an exception.

He said: “Since that game we played against Nottingham at home in October, we have kept the penalty count down.

“There were a few against Coventry last weekend, but that was just for one period.

“Maybe he is just looking for an excuse, as he has not been the ‘Dangy’ I have know for the last 20 years.

“His attitude has been different from the rest and it is a shame because he is good goalie.”

  • Titans entertain Nottingham Lions on Sunday (5.30pm).

is this the discipline under control we had to watch this weekend? 114 mins in penalties between both teams, Telford with 104 of them?
Seems Brittle was right to leave

I’m inclined to disagree with Felder’s comment. Discipline is not under control in that team. The team seems to spend more time killing penalties than icing with five players. Parry was right when he said a couple of months back that discipline needs to be improved in that team. It is of concern that amongst those players that are getting the most penalties is the capatin, an assistant captain and the player/coach himself.

If I was a coach for one the of the other teams in the ENL 1 North team I would advise my players to wind up some of the Titans players, then score a goal when on the power play.

I feel sorry for Hunt as at the moment due to the inability of some players to hold their temper he will be facing more rubber this season than a worker in the durex factory ,unless the team improves it’s discipine. Though as the player coach does not see discipline as problem I doubt that it will happen.
