A search of the River Severn for a Telford man who went missing after his brother was found dead at their home was today called off.
Officers have spent more than three days searching a section of the river between Cressage and Ironbridge for Ted Corbett, 66, after a member of the public spotted what he thought was a man’s body in the water.
The report came after the body of Ted’s brother John, who was in his late 70s, was found on Monday at the home they shared at The Nabb in St Georges.
Telford Police spokesman Chris Ammonds said worsening weather conditions forced officers to call off the search of the river.
He said: “We are taking expert advice about what we can do. The current weather conditions are making it very awkward for the search teams. There are areas where they cannot reach so we are playing a waiting game.”
A car registered to Ted Corbett was found at Cressage this week and the man spotted in the water fitted his description.
