Officers searching the river at Buildwas on Tuesday afternoon
A search of the River Severn today entered a third day as police continued to try to find a Telford man who went missing after his brother was found dead at their home.
Officers have been concentrating their hunt for Ted Corbett, on a section of the the river between Cressage, near Shrewsbury, and Ironbridge, after a member of the public reported spotting a man’s body in the water.
Police today said a car found at Cressage was being linked with a property at The Nabb in St Georges where a body, believed to be that of Mr Corbett’s brother, John, who was in his late 70s, was found on Monday morning.
The death is being treated as “unexplained”.
Chris Ammonds, Telford police spokesman, today said Ted Corbett had not yet been found.
He said a post-mortem examination on the body found at The Nabb was carried out yesterday.
People who knew the brothers have paid tribute to them.
Roger Albert, who has lived on The Nabb for about 35 years, said: “They were two brothers who would not harm anybody. John was a carpenter at the Lilleshall Company. I was apprentice to him when I was 15. I have known him 47 years.
“He liked his fishing, he was a big fisherman. He used to fish for the Shropshire county team.”
Jeff Hutchinson, chairman of Leighton Angling Society, said: “I actually had a Christmas card from Ted and he said in it that John hadn’t been down to the river much this year because he hadn’t been too well. They were both very nice people.”
