A woman was airlifted to hospital after falling while out walking in a Shropshire wood.

The woman, believed to be in her 60s, fractured her ankle in Oaks Wood, Pontesbury, near Shrewsbury, just after 11am yesterday.

An ambulance crew and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene.

Ambulance spokeswoman Claire Thomas said: “The woman suffered a fractured and dislocated ankle in the fall. Crews administered pain relief, wrapped her in a blanket and immobilised her leg with a splint.”
