Shop row man had a flick-knife

Saturday 19th December 2009, 9:24AM GMT.

A Polish factory worker brandished a knife at five soldiers in a Shropshire kebab shop, a court heard.

Piotr Golebiewski pulled a two-inch flick-knife out in the Newport Kebab House in High Street.

The 32-year-old was later found to have an illegal, extendible baton in his car, Shrewsbury Crown Court was told yesterday.

Golebiewski, of Town Wells Mews, Newport, admitted two charges of possessing an offensive weapon and was given a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for a year. He was also ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and pay £1,200 costs.

Mark Linkins, prosecuting, said the soldiers followed Golebiewski into the shop after accusing him of driving erratically. Denis Desmond, for Golebiewski, said he did not have the knife to confront someone.
