Pervert spared jail over images
Saturday 19th December 2009, 7:55AM GMT.
A 36-year-old Ludlow man has been given a suspended prison sentence for being in possession of more than 400 indecent images of children.
Russell Roberts, of Green Acres, appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday after admitting five charges of possessing indecent photographs and videos of children between December 31, 2006 and June 19, 2008.
He was sentenced to 10 months in prison on each count, to run concurrently, suspended for two years. He was ordered to attend the community sex offenders’ group work programme and will appear on the sexual offenders’ register for 10 years.
Roberts was also banned from befriending any children under the age of 16 or having contact with children under the age of 16 unless supervised.
Mr Peter Grice, prosecuting, said Roberts was in possession of 422 indecent pictures and 54 videos of children on three mobile phones and 13 indecent images on his computer .
The court heard how Roberts used his mobile phones to collect the images and videos of young boys, some under the age of 13.
Mr David Iles, for Roberts, said: “This is not a case of grooming, it’s a case of images taken by other people and discovered on the phone. He seems to have derived his pleasure from looking at images and he was not going around schools or trying to groom children.”
