Inspector Tanya Beckett, from West Mercia Police, said: “We’ve had an issue with ice on the roads and drivers skidding.”

One person was taken to hospital and two others were treated at the scene following a two car collision near Church Stretton.

The accident happened on the A49 at Leebotwood yesterday at just after 5pm.

A police spokesman said the south bound lane was closed while the vehicles were recovered.

In Bayston Hill, near Shrewsbury, a woman was taken to hospital after her car was in collision with a parked car. The incident happened at about 5.30pm yesterday in Lythwood Road.

In Chirbury, near Church Stoke, ambulance, police and fire crews were sent to a two car collision on the A49. One car was found to be on its roof.

Meanwhile one car was involved in a collision on the A4363 at Bridgnorth.

Police said there were minor injuries as a result of the crash in Chirbury while no one was injured in the collision in Bridgnorth.

With freezing temperatures forecast over the next few nights, police warned drivers not to leave cars running and unattended while defrosting them as they could be targeted by thieves.
