Shropshire’s Grand National hope

Possol is bang on course for an assault on the Aintree marathon in April.
The six-year-old, trained by Ludlow’s Henry Daly, ended last season with an impressive win over fences at Perth but has been campaigned over the smaller obstacles so far this season with a possible National tilt in mind.
Ready successes at Ascot and again at Doncaster on Saturday have vindicated Daly’s decision to switch back to timber and the trainer is hoping for more of the same.
“He did it very well again on Saturday and has now run two lovely races this season,” said Daly. “He seems to be enjoying himself at the moment and we will just try and find another similar race in the middle of January.
“All we want to do is keep him ticking over really but if he can win a few nice races along the way, thank you very much.”
Meanwhile, Daly is in no rush to decide on the next target for Mighty Man after his stable star made a winning debut over fences at Hereford on Sunday.
The nine-year-old has been plying his trade in top staying hurdles for a number of seasons but a serious tendon injury looked to have ended his career in 2007.
However, fine runs at Cheltenham and Aintree over hurdles earlier this year and an impressive success at Hereford over fences suggest he is right back to his best.
