Elvis leaves residents all shook up

Residents at a Shropshire care home were all shook up when they received a visit from The King of rock’n'roll.
Proving you’re never too old to enjoy good music, residents, families and friends at Coton Hill House care home in Shrewsbury enjoyed a performance from Karl Memphis, from Telford, whose Elvis tribute act is gaining fame on both sides of the Atlantic.
Toes were tapping and many residents sang along while enjoying a pint of beer.
Reg Tudor, from Harlescott, who has been living at Coton Hill House for six months, said: “I always did like Elvis and this fella is good.”
Karl Memphis, who has played at holiday resorts in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, didn’t disappoint his mainly elderly audience in Shrewsbury.
Care home manager Mary Langdown, who organised the event, said: “I was expecting someone fat and 50 but Karl is the real deal, the ladies all love him, they really know how to enjoy themselves and I don’t know how were going to get them to go to bed tonight.”
Coton Hill House is a residential care home for older people in Berwick Road with 45 rooms and a large day centre. The social events are planned by Mary Langdown and her team and include everything from quiz nights to church services. It is one of 15 care centres operated by Coverage Care.
