Boss Rob Smith has warned AFC Telford United to prepare for a scrap in tonight’s Blue Square North clash at Redditch.

The Bucks make the trip to the Valley Stadium without midfielder Gavin Hurren, who has rejected the offer of a contract to the end of the season and opted to stay at Tamworth.

But that is the least of Smith’s concerns as he looks to extend Telford’s three-game unbeaten run against a club where he enjoyed much success – both as a player and manager.

And he believes the forecast wet and cold conditions will make it that much tougher for the Bucks to get the result they want.

“When I used to play there it was even worse, it was thick mud every game,” he revealed.

“But they know how to play on it and they’ve had some really good results there this season.

“They beat Alfreton 3-0 and drew with Fleetwood, and that tells you what to expect.

“I haven’t lost to Redditch since I’ve been at Telford, but it’s one of those games where you will lose if you go in with the wrong frame of mind.

“If we get the attitude right and are resilient, then we can come out with the right result.”

Defender Gavin Cowan faces a late fitness test on the groin injury that forced him off in Telford’s 2-1 win at Corby last Wednesday.

Andre Gray (hamstring) is definitely out, but Smith is confident that Carl Rodgers (groin) and Damian Reeves (calf) will be fit to play a part.
