Talks on rescue plans for West Mid

Monday 14th December 2009, 11:42AM GMT.

westmidsignsA rescue plan for the West Mid Show will be presented to an emergency meeting of the society’s council tomorrow night in Shrewsbury.

The Shropshire and West Midland Agricultural Society is fighting for survival over debts of about £260,000, which are owed to nearly 80 creditors.

The society’s council, which has around 40 members, is being invited to hear the rescue plan that is being put forward by member Roy Dodd, husband of former show chairman Annie Home-Dodd.

Acting chairman Neale Sadler, in a letter to members, said a proposal to put the society into liquidation was deferred at a meeting in Birmingham last week and proceedings adjourned to January 7.

The letter says: “Therefore the society is still ‘live’ and reverts to the position pre-November 4, 2009.

“The reasons for the adjournment were firstly technical as the proxy votes supplied to insolvency practitioner Rimes & Co had not been transferred to the new insolvency practitioner Kevin Lucas of Barringtons.

“Secondly a rescue plan was put forward by Mr Roy Dodd supported by a group of members and a group of the creditors of the society.

“The rescue plan now needs to be presented to the society’s council in order that it can be proposed at the re-convened members insolvency meeting on January 7, 2010,” the letter added.

Rescuing the society is going to be a challenge, but those connected to it have so much passion and emotion that I hope the community as a whole will support what is trying to be achieved. If they do I am sure the new board of trustees will provide a society robust enough to weather the changing demands of both visitors and supporters.
