Dozens of troops formed a guard of honour for Shrewsbury Town players they attended the club’s clash with Grimsby Town for free.

The servicemen and women returning from active duty were given free tickets for the League Two game as part of the Tickets for Troops initiative.

The club launched the scheme to reward the troops for their hard work on the front line, said general manager Jon Harris.

About 40 guests from RAF Shawbury and The Royal Irish Guards based at Clive Barracks, Tern Hill, walked around the pitch ahead of the game. They then formed a guard of honour for the teams as they took to the pitch.

All serving military personnel and any veterans who have been medically discharged through injury since 2001 qualified for tickets.
