Troops offered tickets to Town matches
Friday 11th December 2009, 11:35AM GMT.
Shrewsbury Town Football Club has launched a scheme to reward service men and women returning from active duty with free tickets to matches.
The club will be launching its Tickets for Troops initiative at the home game against Grimsby Town tomorrow.
About 40 guests from RAF Shawbury and The Royal Irish Guards based at Clive Barracks, Tern Hill, will get the chance to walk around the pitch ahead of the game.
They will then form a guard of honour for the two teams.
Tickets are to be made available to soldiers who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
All serving military personnel and any veterans who have been medically discharged through injury since 2001 will qualify for tickets.
Jon Harris, general manager of Shrewsbury Town, said: “Tickets for Troops is an excellent initiative and one which the club will do all it can to promote.”

I think the government will be watching this scheme closely, to see if watching Shrewsbury Town for 90 minutes makes fighting in Afghanistan more appealing. On a serious note, Merry Christmas to our brave Armed Forces. May you stay safe.

What about the ex-services who have faced ‘the enemy’ but no longer hold an ID card? For instance, Bosnia,NI,Falklands and Iraq, being brave isn’t exclusively reserved for those who have been to Kabul
