Hurren’s offered contract by Bucks

Friday 11th December 2009, 1:20PM GMT.

AFC Telford United have offered midfielder Gavin Hurren a contract to the end of the season – and given him the weekend to decide whether to sign.

The former Kidderminster man has impressed during three months on loan at the New Bucks Head from parent club Tamworth.

Assistant manager Larry Chambers values the versatility of the 25-year-old, who can also operate as a centre-half or a right-back.

But the player has two other offers on the table, and Chambers accepts he could be financially better off by going elsewhere.

“We’ve made him an offer which he’s mulling over, but he’s got another couple of options,” the Telford No 2 confirmed.

“One of the offers is an 18-month contract with more money on the table, but he has enjoyed his time here.

“We spoke to him on the way back from Corby on Wednesday and the vibes were quite positive.”

Option

Chambers is eager to hold on to Hurren, and insists the offer they have made is a fair one.

“We’re not in a position to offer anything more than a deal to the end of the season,” he added.

“Gav’s also got the option to stay at Tamworth but if he does then I don’t think he’ll play much football because he doesn’t seem to feature in Gary Mills’ plans.

“I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him,” he added. “But he’s shown enough in a couple of games to suggest he would be a good acquisition over the next couple of months.”

l Centre-back Gavin Cowan will be suspended for the trip to Northwich Victoria on Saturday, December 19 after picking up his fifth booking of the season late on in last Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Fleetwood.

Former Buck Jamie Vermiglio, now at Northwich, is also serving a one-match ban that day so misses the chance to play against his former club.

Vermiglio was sent off at the weekend while making his Northwich debut in their 1-0 win at Gloucester.
