Jobs boost for town as plan is approved

More than 100 jobs are set to be created in a Shropshire town after a multi-million pound proposal for a new community service development was given the go-ahead by planners.
The development in the heart of Shrewsbury town centre will include a medical centre, church, supermarket and offices.
The Barker Street development was approved by members of Shropshire Council’s central planning committee yesterday.
Councillors praised the scheme and said it would offer a great opportunity to rejuvenate the area of the town while bringing in some much-needed jobs.
Morris Property submitted the plans with partners including Claremont Baptist Church and the Riverside Medical Practice.
The development will include a two-storey Baptist church, which will retain the existing frontage, offices, ground floor retail and a pharmacy and doctor’s surgery.
Morris Property bought the car park for £2 million in 2007, but the total cost of the scheme is unknown.
Councillor Ted Clarke said: “This is a considerable new development for the town and I am glad we are approving it.”
The plans were re-submitted this year after the original design including five apartments was withdrawn after talks with English Heritage.
Meanwhile, multi-million pound plans to build roadside services in Newport, which would include a 41-bedroom motel and restaurant, have been backed unanimously by the town’s council last night.

Yep same old council…. just like they approved the quantam leap thingy, another rise in council tax looks likely then when we clearly don’t need another doctors practice in the town centre etc with no parking.

So why does Newport need a 41 bed motel and resteraunt next to the garden centre and resteraunt, and adjacent to the motel/filling station site just yards away now up for sale?
Does no-one consider “unjustified intrusion into the countryside” or “unwarranted expansion into green belt land” any more?
Council planning? I don’t think so.
