Performing pigs are grounded
Wednesday 9th December 2009, 10:47AM GMT.
Shropshire’s very own performing pigs have been grounded – for the time being at least.
Trampolining pig Scarlet and dancers Polly and Arthur from Pigs in Clover in Cardeston, near Shrewsbury, were set to appear in front of Britain’s Got Talent judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan tomorrow at an audition show at the NEC arena in Birmingham.
But producers of the show have given Gwen Howell special dispensation to take a DVD of their performance to producers of the show, instead of transporting the animals down.
Gwen, 46, who runs Pigs in Clover with her husband Steven, 43, said Scarlet, a Hungarian mangalitza, trampolines, while Polly, the Kune Kune, and Arthur, a fellow mangalitza, dance nearby.
She said: “We are travelling down to Birmingham for the Britain’s Got Talent auditions, but we won’t be taking the pigs with us.
“They are not pets and need a movement licence before they can be transported so we have been allowed to keep them at home and just bring down a DVD to hand in,” she added.
