Post offices to share in £1.5m fund

Tuesday 8th December 2009, 9:30AM GMT.

Five Mid Wales post offices are to get a share of £1.5 million of Welsh Assembly funding to help them diversify their services, take on more staff and safeguard their future.

The five are among a total of 75 outlets throughout Wales which will share the funding as part of the Assembly’s Post Office Diversification Fund.

The total funding will lead to the equivalent of 57 full time jobs at post offices throughout Wales.

In Powys, post offices in Llangurig, Ystradfellte, Rhayader, Tremont Road and Beguildy will receive support under the scheme.

Twelve of the 75 have been awarded grants of up to £5,000 each for small capital projects and 63 have been awarded up to £20,000 each for larger capital projects.

Thirty four of the post offices have received up to £15,000 in revenue funding which will help employ new staff or increase staff hours to provide more services.
