Detectives’ plea as burglar goes on the run

Tuesday 8th December 2009, 10:50AM GMT.

A police hunt was under way today for a prolific Shropshire burglar who is on the run.

Detectives have appealed to the public for help to trace Mark Stephen Gillon, of Telford, who has been recalled to jail after failing to keep Probation Service appointments.

The 26-year-old, of Malinslee, was jailed for 44 months in 2006 for a number of burglary offences but was then released on licence in 2008.

Sentenced

But while out on licence he committed further burglary offences and this saw him sentenced to further time in prison, police said.

In October this year Gillon was once again released on licence but he has now breached the conditions of that licence.

Detective Inspector Pete Brophy, of Telford CID, said: “Mark Gillon’s record demonstrates that he has been a prolific offender in the past and we believe it is vital that we find him and return him to prison as soon as we can.

“We are concerned that the longer he remains unaccounted for, the more chance there is of him committing further offences. He has already been unlawfully at large for more than a month.

“Mark knows that he has breached his licence and that he is wanted by police. Therefore there is little doubt that he is knowingly in breach of his licence and is basically on the run from the police.

“We are working extremely hard to trace Mark but have so far been unable to do so.

“Therefore, we feel that assistance from local people may be vital in finding him and returning him to prison so that the chances of him re-offending are limited.

Information

“Anyone who knows where we might be able to find Mark, or who believes they may have seen him during the past few weeks, is asked to call police in Telford on 0300 333 3000.

“Alternatively, if you have information you’d like to share but do not want to identify yourself please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
