Tuesday 8th December 2009, 10:25AM GMT.

A young couple were assaulted in a late-night attack in Shawbury by four men in a car, police revealed today. Officers investigating the incident have appealed for witnesses.

The man and woman had just crossed the road near the Elephant and Castle pub when four men got out of an orange Fiat Punto, which had pulled up at the traffic lights nearby.

The man was punched and knocked to the ground and his partner was also struck. Neither required hospital treatment.

Police say the assaults happened at about 11.15pm on Friday and have appealed for witnesses.
