Hamstrung Town hoping on Hibbert

Marien Ifura of Staines Town tackles David Hibbert of Shrewsbury TownTop scorer Dave Hibbert should be fit for Shrewsbury Town’s Christmas programme – but is a doubt for Saturday’s visit of Grimsby.

Hibbert was forced to sit out of Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth with a slight hamstring strain.

But manager Paul Simpson is confident the injury isn’t a long term problem.

“We are probably looking at two weeks but we will wait and see,” said the Town boss.

“We thought it was just a kick on Dave’s hamstring from the Rotherham game but he tried to run on Thursday and we realised it was more than just a kick.

“We were hopeful he would be right for Saturday but that didn’t happen so we will see how it progresses this week.”

Meanwhile, Simpson has urged his Town side to get ruthless and turn performances into points.

Despite an encouraging display, Shrewsbury had nothing to show for their efforts on Saturday as they returned from the south coast with a 1-0 defeat against their automatic promotion chasing hosts.

“We have to get into our systems that when we come to these places, we grind them down and kill them off,” said the Town boss.

“It should have been three points at Notts County (earlier in the season) and it ends up as one.

“It should have been one point at worst on Saturday and it ends up nothing.

“That is reflected in our League places and it’s something we have to improve on.”

A late own goal from Terry Dunfield gave Bournemouth victory, and Simpson insisted that was harsh on the midfielder and his team.

“Terry didn’t deserve that because I thought it was another excellent performance from him in midfield,” he added.

“As a team, I thought we deserved something out of it.

“We performed well, passed the ball well, created some good opportunities and got into the good areas.

“But we go away with absolutely nothing. The only thing people care about is the result and it says 1-0 to Bournemouth.”
