Big Brother interview money to aid charity

Monday 7th December 2009, 10:29AM GMT.

Shropshire’s Big Brother star Kris Donnelly has donated £1,000 to a county charity.

The money was raised by interviews with national magazines that Kris’s mum Elaine, his sister Karly, and his friend AJ, did during his time in the Big Brother House.

A further £1,000 has been donated by the family to the website www.matthews friends.org that offers help and support to families with children with Dravet syndrome, a type of epilepsy.

Kris said: “We lost our young cousin, James to Dravet syndrome recently and wanted to support the website.

“It has been great coming to Hope House today. It is such a positive place and it is really good to be able to do something to help the families that come here.”

Mrs Donnelly said: “We were all approached by many magazines and newspapers and agreed to do just a couple of “question and answers” on the condition that the money went to charity.

“I work with children with disabilities throughout Shropshire, including some families who use Hope House, so was already aware of the fantastic work that they do.

“I am delighted that the donations will be put to such good use.”

Hope House fundraising manager Vanessa Thomas said: “It was a fantastic surprise to hear from Elaine and Kris that they had such a generous Christmas gift for us, and a delight to show them around the hospice.”

Kris said he was enjoying being back in Shropshire with his family and friends.
