A 44-year-old Shropshire woman who died after crashing her car through a fence in Ellesmere was three-and-a-half times the drink-drive limit, an inquest has heard.

Tracey Clorley, of Church Street, Ellesmere, died from head injuries following a collision on the A495 in Ellesmere, an inquest at Shrewsbury Magistrates Court was told yesterday.

Mr John Ellery, coroner for Mid and North Shropshire, delivered a verdict of accidental death.

The inquest heard from Miss Clorley’s daughter Debbie Jones who had spent the night of July 17 with her mother at the Ellesmere Hotel, in Ellesmere. She told the coroner she had left at just before midnight and had assumed her mother would sleep at her house.

Miss Clorley’s boyfriend David Evans said he had received a missed call from Miss Clorley at 11.50pm.

Nobody heard from Miss Clorley again the inquest was told. The next morning her car was spotted on a service road to the Castlefield car park, in Ellesmere. Miss Clorley was found dead inside the car.

Mr Ellery said it appeared she had lost control going around a bend. He said the only contributing factor to the collision was Miss Clorley’s high alcohol level of 291 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

He said: “I record that Tracey Clorley died on July 18 at Castlefield car park, in Ellesmere and that the cause of death is given as a head injury due to a road traffic collision. I accept this was an accident and record a verdict of accidental death.”
