Weekend of festive fun for families
Thursday 3rd December 2009, 6:59PM GMT.
Final preparations were being made today ahead of a weekend of festive fun in Oswestry.
The town will be turned into a Christmas wonderland on Friday evening when the Oswestry Christmas Live music, singing and shopping extravaganza is staged.
Those festivities will be followed by Rotary Club of Oswestry Borderland’s annual Christmas procession on Saturday which this year will have up to 32 floats taking part.
And on Sunday hundreds dressed up as snowmen are expected to take to the streets in Hope House Children’s Hospice Snowman Shuffle fundraiser.
Town councillor Betty Gull said: “Once again we have a full weekend of Christmas fun lined up.
“The Christmas Live is such a wonderful family occasion and there is a great atmosphere in the town. Fingers crossed the weather stays fine and everyone has a wonderful night.”
Among the attractions will be the Porthywaen Silver Band playing carols around the town’s main Christmas tree in Festival Square. Many shops will be open for late night shopping and a fairground will be set up in the town centre.
Fireworks, craft stalls and street entertainers have also been lined up during the event which runs from 6pm to 10pm.
The parade starts at 11am and will see a procession of decorated floats weaving their way through the town centre.
