Club nets record year for revenue

Wednesday 2nd December 2009, 11:50AM GMT.

AFC Telford United today announced record profits from last season’s campaign, the fifth in a row the club has stayed in the black.

Cup glory in the Setanta Shield, as well as good runs in the FA Cup and FA Trophy, meant income at the New Bucks Head reached an all-time high of £766,648, an increase of 34 per cent on the season before.

Unparallelled expenditure on players and wages meant the club spent £758,193, again a record, but it still posted a profit of more than £8,000 over the year.

The board presented the accounts at Telford United Supporters Trust annual meeting last Thursday before releasing the figures publicly today.

Chairman Lee Carter expressed his delight at the achievement in the annual report.

“This represents our fifth year of profit despite the club bearing record levels of expenditure,” he said.

In terms of income, gate receipts pulled in £264,600 throughout the season, food and drink netted the club £81,101 and income from grants and prize monies from cups stood at £117,783.

Football-related wages paid out swelled to £402,746, more than double the figure of five years ago and the biggest player budget in the club’s history. The club paid £16,000 in signing-on fees and off-field staff costs were up 14 per cent compared to the season before.

Mr Carter said the club was performing admirably.

Does anyone else think that the football-related wages are way to high for a team that plays in the BSN? If the players are not payed in the summer then thats 10k a week! If prices go up again this year i think questions need to be asked.
