The weather outlook in Shropshire
Tuesday 1st December 2009, 12:15PM GMT.
A belt of wet and windy weather is set to return to Shropshire this afternoon bringing several days of heavy showers to the county.
Weatherman John Warner said people could put away the scarves and gloves and bring out their raincoats again.
“The frosty, cold weather was definitely a one-off,” said Mr Warner.
“Wet and windy weather will come back this afternoon and heavy showers tomorrow and Thursday. With the already saturated ground there is a 60 to 70 per cent chance of some flooding in Shropshire,” he added.
Mr Warner said there could be snow flurries across high ground in the north, but it was unlikely to affect Shropshire.
Flood defences in Shropshire are being relaxed despite forecasts of more rain for the next few days.
The Environment Agency has decided to take down the flood barriers at Frankwell today. A spokeswoman said: “We held a meeting this morning and decided to take the barriers down later today.”
In Ironbridge the barriers came down at the weekend.
In Shrewsbury, the main Frankwell car park was partially reopened yesterday afternoon as water levels continue to drop.
A spokesman said: “Frankwell Riverside Car Park will remain closed as the Environment Agency is still occupying the area.”
Roads still closed in the Shrewsbury area include the road between Cross Houses and Atcham, Sydney Avenue, Castlefields, Chilton Farm Lane, Atcham and Gravel Hill Lane, near the West Mid Showground.
