The Princess Royal was due to fly into Shropshire today for a whistlestop tour of the county.

Princess Anne was first scheduled to be at Harper Adams University College near Newport in the morning to be met by Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, Algernon Heber-Percy.

She was due to visit a new dairy unit at the college before officially opening the West Midlands Regional Food Academy on the campus.

Princess Anne was then set to visit a new £20,000 skate park for youngsters in Newport and, at the entrance, 10-year-old resident Amelia Parker was to present the Royal visitor with a posy of flowers.

She was then due to meet Diane Haselock and Marc Simpson from Newport Sk8 and Ride, the voluntary group and driving force behind the new park.

Next on the itinerary is a trip to Concord College at Acton Burnell, which is marking its diamond jubilee.

The visit was due to end in Shrewsbury this afternoon where the princess was to officially open the Fletcher House complex.
