A Shrewsbury man found guilty of assaulting another man has been jailed for two and a half years.
Daniel Lewin, 28, of Sultan Road, appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday after being found guilty of assaulting Innocent Nwamuo and causing him actual bodily harm. He was jailed for 30 months.
Mr Robert Edwards, prosecuting, said the assault took place in New Park Road, Castlefields, Shrewsbury, as the victim was walking at about 1.30am on September 6, 2008.
He said: “He saw two men and as he passed he noticed one of them was following him. Both men stood in front of him and asked if he wanted to buy some crack. He declined and tried to walk away.
“The victim crossed the road followed by the defendant who was in possession of two beer bottles.
“It culminated in the defendant pushing the victim, the second man struck him in the head with a bottle while the defendant kicked him in the back.”
The court heard the second man ran off and the victim tried to detain Lewin but Lewin hit him with A bottle.
“The defendant then ran from the scene pursued by the victim. He was successful in catching the defendant and detained him until the police arrived,” said Mr Edwards.
Mr Mike Sherwood Smith, for Lewin, said: “It is clear Mr Lewin expresses qualified remorse for what happened but he doesn’t go as far as accepting the account of the injured party as correct.”
