We’ve got what it takes – Kevin

Monday 30th November 2009, 12:46PM GMT.

Kevin McIntyre of Shrewsbury Town and Andy Morrell of BuryTough-tackling midfielder Kevin McIntyre has urged Shrewsbury Town to believe in their promotion credentials as they prepare to tackle a pair of League Two’s high-fliers this week.

Town are back in action – after a weekend of inactivity – tomorrow night when third place Rotherham visit the Prostar Stadium.

And a testing trip south awaits on Saturday as Paul Simpson’s side travel to take on table-topping Bournemouth.

Shrewsbury enter the game on an indifferent run of form after a run of just one League victory in their last eight outings, a sequence which has seen them drop out of the play-off positions.

But McIntyre remains confident Town have more than enough in the tank to force their way back into the promotion reckoning.

“We need to believe in ourselves a bit more,” said the former Macclesfield man.

“People know we are a good team and we have proven that with the way we have played at Notts County and some of the other top teams this season.

“If we can have that belief in our ability, there is no reason we can’t go on a five or six game winning streak and get ourselves back up there.

“It’s a big week for us because we are playing two of the top teams and it’s important we get the defeat at Hereford last Tuesday out of our system.”

McIntyre, who has filled both left and central berths in Town’s midfield in recent weeks, insists a lack of confidence isn’t an issue.

“Certain things have gone against us in terms of injuries and that has meant we have had to chop and change things around,” he added.

“As a group of players we know what we are capable of and there is a lot of confidence in what we can achieve this season.

“Rotherham are a good side but we know if we can perform as we can, we have enough to get the right result.”
