Simpson lifted by fitness of Disley

craig-disley2Two of Shrewsbury Town’s key summer signings are on course to return to full fitness for the Christmas programme.

Craig Disley and Lewis Neal have both managed just a handful of games in the opening four months of the season.

Former Bristol Rovers midfielder Disley has been troubled by a knee problem while winger Neal has been struggling with calf and ankle problems.

But both are now closing in on a return to fitness ahead of a hectic spell which will see Town play six games during December.

“Craig Disley is back in training,” revealed Town boss Paul Simpson.

“We felt that Wednesday’s reserve game (a 1-0 win against Sheffield United) was a bit too early for him, but hopefully he can continue to progress in training and be available in the next week or two.

“Lewis has done some running at the end of this week and hopefully he will be ready to join in with full training next week.”

Should the pair’s rehabilitation run smoothly, only long term casualties Glynn Garner and Mike Jackson will be sidelined.

Simpson is keen to keep the match sharpness of his entire squad up and, with no reserve games for the remainder of the calender year, is working on arranging some behind close doors friendlies.

it will be good to see dizzy and neal in the team both are class players and have been missed in town performance. its a shame town could not get a defender in time for the xmas rush. and a shame that bright was not shipped out on loan. still not showen any type of skill that he showed in the tranmere game which simmo signed him for. i hope simmo does not get rid of gray as he has a load of potentail.speed, skill etc etc. one for the future
