Fancied Titans target Jets four-pointer

Friday 27th November 2009, 6:00PM GMT.

Telford TitansTelford Titans take on Kingston Jets in a double-header of games this weekend with the rare tag of favourites – and the focus is firmly on their first four-point haul of the ENL 1 season.

The county men make their first trip to the Humberside Arena on Saturday evening, before a return clash in Telford just 24 hours later.

Kingston have endured a tough start to the season and lie bottom of the standings – a situation that Titans coach David Fielder wants his side to take advantage of.

He said: “The goal is four points and before last weekend, I wanted six points from three games and we have already got two of them after beating Blackburn.

“We are after four more and that hopefully will give us some confidence ahead of a tough trip to Nottingham the weekend after.”

Telford could be without netminder Ben Hunt after he aggrevated a hamstring injury last weekend and with Daniel Brittle still injured, Fielder may bring youngster Dan Barlow into action.

The return of Ashley Stanton and Ian Jesson will, however, give Telford a confidence boost, although Fielder is still wary of a Kingston side that beat Coventry last week.

“We are seen as favourites and if they beat us they would be really happy,” he added.

“But they might have seen our recent results and think they are in with a chance, especially in Kingston, which is a tough, big rink.”

This weekend’s games will be the second time this season that Telford have played twice in 48 hours, but the return fixture in Shropshire on Sunday could prove to be an advantage.

Fielder said: “If it was the other way round and we played home first it would have been tougher, but playing at home on Sunday means the lads will be pumped up.”

Telford’s game on Sunday evening faces off at 5.30pm.
