Body found in pool

 Scene of unexplained death on Shepherds Lane, Oxon Pool, ShrewsburyThe body of an elderly man was found in a pool on the outskirts of Shrewsbury today.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to Oxon Pool, near Oxon Hall Touring Park in Bicton Heath at shortly before 1.30am.

Police are investigating the death.

The man has not been formally identified but us believed to be that of a man in his 80s who was previously reported missing from his home in Shrewsbury.

Police spokesman Richard Ewels said: “Until the post mortem is carried out we are treating it as an unexplained death.

“However, we believe the body to be that of an elderly man who had been reported as missing.

“At this stage, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with his death.”

A spokeswoman from Shropshire Fire and Rescue said the incident commander, two fire engines and a rescue boat were sent from Shrewsbury along with the rescue tender from Wellington.

Chris Kowalik, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: “We were called to confirm death at the scene in Little Oxon Lane, in Bicton Heath, by police at 1.25am.

“The man was found in a large pool and we confirmed death at the scene.”

The coroner for Mid and North Shropshire Mr John Ellery has been informed and a post mortem will be carried over the next few days to establish the cause of death.
