Approval for bar to extend opening times

Thursday 26th November 2009, 9:22AM GMT.

An Oswestry bar will be allowed to stay open for longer and play live, amplified music after councillors granted planning approval against their own officers’ advice.

Bosses at The Ironworks will also be allowed to serve food and alcohol in the venue’s courtyard.

Steve and Ros Gore said they were delighted that Shropshire Council’s Oswestry area planning committee had backed their application on Tuesday.

The couple applied for the variation following complaints from neighbours about noise and the level of music.

The Ironworks can now stay open until 1am on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and until 3am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Mr Gore said: “It is a massive relief because it has been hanging over us for months.”

Although members allowed the variation, the couple must follow two conditions: to stop music playing one hour before the premises closes and to monitor noise levels.
