Diggers will soon be on a Telford estate to start the next stage of a £1 million plan to revamp the area.

Building work can now begin in Woodside after several demolitions around the estate paved the way for a new public square and link road, which will form a front to the Park Lane Centre.

This through route will improve access to the estate and keep residents safe from traffic.

Builders are expected on site in January after a large consultation took place with residents.

Council bosses said today the work should take about four months to complete and will allow them to begin marketing the site for four potential shops.

The council awarded the work to Wellington-based construction firm McPhillips.

This is the latest stage in the area’s redevelopment after the demolition of the Dolphin public house and the Courts blocks earlier this year.

Residents have already seen improvements including the building of the Park Lane Centre, road maintenance and parking for more than 800 homes on the estate.

Councillor Eric Carter, cabinet member for regeneration and spokesman for the regeneration partnership, said: “This is more good news for Woodside and shows how we are keeping this moving ahead, confirming its place as a priority for us.”
